Compensation:

Hourly Pay Range: $23.31

Compensation: Pay Grade 27 Step 10: $23.31 hour

After successful 3 months of employment $23.87 hour

After successful 9 months of employment $24.48 hour

After successful 12 months of employment Promotion to COI (B) $25.68 hour

Note: New Hire Rate of Pay is $23.31/hr., plus shift differential (if applicable). Officers working 2nd (2pm to 10pm) or 3rd (10pm to 6am) shift are paid an additional shift differential of 30 cents per hour. Overtime work is available.

We are a 24 hour/7 day a week operation, so days off are consecutive but may be during the week. Shift and Days Off will be determined after candidates are hired. Shift preferences will be taken into consideration, but not guaranteed.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

A Corrections Officer I supervises and maintains discipline and control of residents at all times. Performs searches and shakedowns of residents, persons, and physical areas in order to prevent and control secretion of contraband. Observes and monitors resident activities and interactions while enforcing policy, rules, and regulations. Follows established security procedure in controlling visitors, staff, resident, and vehicular traffic to prevent the admittance or exit of authorized persons and the introduction of contraband. Takes and reports periodic counts of residents. Responds to emergency situations in accordance with appropriate contingency plans. Subject to regular rotation or post and/or shift assignment within the facility. Corrections Officers are required to weapons qualify under KDOC guidelines during initial training and on an annual basis.


Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Supervise residents in a minimum / medium security prison setting, maintain discipline and control

Enforce policy, rules, and regulations

Perform searches and shakedowns

Observe and monitor resident activities and interactions

Deal effectively with individuals

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Licensing & Certification:

Valid Driver’s License

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 18 years of age at the time of appointment

Free from felony conviction(s); free of any felony and/or misdemeanor domestic violence crime, No DUI convictions within the last 24 months

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements:

Take and pass a Drug Screening Test, Medical Screening, and TB Screening
